Dyspraxia Treatment – Important Tips

Developmental co-ordination disorder is caused by the weak and underperforming and underdeveloped cells called neurons which affects motor skills and results in disorganized movements. Dyspraxia Treatment does not cure the condition completely but can help a child learn how to cope with the difficulties and improve any shortcomings. If it is not treated timely or if the dyspraxia treatment is not started early on, then the problem will trouble life long and cannot be addressed or dealt with properly.

Some Of The Symptoms Of Perceptuo-Motor Dysfunction:

  • Every day activities like dressing, combing hair, brushing teeth, tying shoe laces and other mundane things are tiresome, laborious, and are hard for kids who are suffer from the condition.
  • They avoid common movements like crawling, rolling, etc.
  • They have trouble with eye movements. Their eyes cannot keep a track of a moving thing.
  • They find it difficult to move their head when following a moving thing.
  • While walking they appear clumsy and often bang into walls, people, things, or fall more.
  • They have problems with words, sounds, speech, and language.
  • School going kids can pick up random phobias and fear.
  • Can behave in an obsessive compulsive manner.
  • Usually find it hard to get along with peers, class and school mates.

    • The very first step of treatment is to identify the symptoms of the condition. The earlier it is identified the better a child reacts to treatment.
    • Patience is the keyword in such situations. Parents cannot expect fast and instant solutions. With patience and enough care a dyspraxic children can improve faster.
    • Make the kids believe they are independent and can become successful instead of doing everything for them.
    • Consult therapists who would teach the child how to develop fine motor skills that are required to finish every day, mandatory tasks without any assistance.
    • Start small. Encourage the child to achieve simple things first. This will instill enough confidence in them to believe in self.
    • Any negative comments or discouragement from family, friends or society can affect the kids negatively and can push them towards depression.
    • Forced learning is again not a way to progressing.
    • An occupation therapist will identify the every day problems he or she is facing and will recommend some relevant movements. Be patient and encourage the child to learn them.
    • Speech and language therapist will examine the problem areas and recommend certain tongue exercises and learning habits to help the kid.
    • Also, help is provided to organize and treat poor motor skills, movement skills, and visual skills.

    These are some of the steps towards dyspraxia treatment which can be beneficial and helpful in overcoming many difficulties associated with the condition.
